OUR STORY
Frieda Sybille Clissold, a precious life lost too soon, was born still on August 12, 2024, at 40+2 weeks gestation. Despite being a healthy 3.27 kg and 53cm long, her life was tragically cut short due to suspected medical negligence. Her mother, 40 years old at the time, was aware of the risks of stillbirth, but unfortunately, her concerns were not adequately addressed by medical professionals.
The events leading up to Frieda’s passing are a stark reminder of the importance of proactive care and communication in healthcare. Initially, medical professionals recommended a 39-week delivery, but no concrete plans were made. It wasn’t until Stephen, Frieda’s father, attended a 39+3 week appointment and demanded action that an induction of labor was finally scheduled for 40 weeks. However, due to high demand, the hospital was unable to accommodate this request until 40+4 weeks, by which time it was too late.
The devastating loss of Frieda has left her parents with a lifetime of questions and a determination to seek justice. In a meeting with a doctor two weeks after the incident, they were met with a dismissive attitude, being told that they had simply had bad luck. The doctor’s admission that medical professionals often withhold information about stillbirth risks from expectant mothers, assuming they would become anxious, is a disturbing revelation. Furthermore, the doctor’s assertion that doctors are not required to consult with mothers about assumed risks is a concerning lack of accountability.
Frieda’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the need for transparency, communication, and accountability in healthcare. Her parents will continue to fight for answers and justice, ensuring that their daughter’s memory is not forgotten and that others may be spared from similar tragedies.
